With drug-related deaths on the rise and the emergence of increasingly potent substances like Nitazenes, it's evident that our approach is falling short.
I'm increasingly drawn to the Iron Law of Prohibition, which posits that intensified law enforcement often leads to the proliferation of more potent drugs due to heightened risks in transportation and manufacturing.
Perhaps it's time to adopt a genuine trauma-informed harm reduction/body autonomy approach to drug use. By prioritising harm reduction strategies and respecting individual autonomy, we could potentially curb the rising death toll and provide much-needed support to those struggling with addiction.
It's clear that the status quo isn't delivering the results we need. It's time for a new approach.
